WMATA Bladensburg Bus Division

Progress Environmental is proud to support the modernization of public transportation infrastructure through our work at WMATA’s Bladensburg Bus Division, one of Metro’s longest-serving bus maintenance and operations facilities. Located at 2251 26th Street NE in Washington, D.C., the garage has played a critical role in supporting transit service throughout the District and neighboring Maryland communities since 1962.

As part of Metro’s commitment to a more sustainable future, the facility is undergoing a comprehensive reconstruction designed to support the agency’s transition to a zero-emission bus fleet. Phase 1 of the project opened in July 2025, with additional phases scheduled through 2027. Upon completion, the modernized complex will have the capacity to house and service up to 300 buses, including a significant number of battery-electric vehicles.

Progress Environmental provided environmental and abatement services to support the phased redevelopment of the site, helping prepare the facility for the next generation of transit operations. The new campus will feature advanced maintenance and repair facilities, expanded bus storage and parking structures, electric-bus charging infrastructure, solar energy systems, rainwater harvesting technology, and workspace for approximately 500 Metro employees.
