Progress Environmental is proud to support the modernization of critical electrical infrastructure through our work at the PEPCO Champlain Street Substation, a historic facility that has powered Washington, D.C. communities since 1931. Known as PEPCO Substation No. 25, the landmark site has played a vital role in the city’s electrical distribution network for nearly a century and is now undergoing significant upgrades as part of Pepco’s Capital Grid Project.
Our team provided environmental and abatement services to support the facility’s ongoing expansion and modernization while helping preserve the historic character of the original structure. The project involves replacing aging infrastructure, converting portions of the substation to modern 230 kV and 69 kV service, constructing a new enclosed substation behind the preserved historic façade, and installing thousands of feet of new underground electrical infrastructure.
